Precision Follicular Extraction (PFE) Frequently Asked Questions
What Are The Benefits Of Follicular Unit Transplantation For Treating Hair Loss?
By performing FUT, we are able to graft more hairs during a single procedure, as the “strip” of hair-bearing scalp can provide us with more grafts to place in one procedure. This approach to treatment also avoids extensive shaving of the back of the scalp.
What Will My FUT Involve?
Before your procedure begins, you and your doctor will review what you discussed during consultation to confirm that this is the hair treatment you desire. You will have the opportunity to review and approve drawn templates of the hairline and treatment area. After everything is approved, you will proceed to the treatment room where the donor area of your scalp will be carefully shaved down to ¼ inch before the area is treated with local anesthetic. From here, your surgeon will carefully remove the strip providing us with follicles for treatment, and the technician will dissect the strip into individual donor grafts. The recipient area will be prepared by your surgeon before your technician places the grafts to restore your hair. The treatment areas will be evaluated by your surgeon to confirm the procedure was a success, and you will receive post-treatment instructions before departing.
How Long Will FUT Take To Complete?
Your FUT should be completed within 4-6 hours.
Am I Really Going To Be Awake During The Procedure?
Local anesthetic is used to prevent discomfort and you will remain awake during your procedure. We can provide a sedative to make you comfortable throughout the procedure. Many patients choose to relax and watch a movie as work takes place.
