Patient History & Goals for Androgenic Alopecia in Westchester, NY

Abby was a new patient to the Medi Tresse Westchester, NY office. Her hair loss started later in life, at the age of 61, approximately 4 years ago. Her concern was that it was getting hard to hide her hair loss on her scalp. Her goal for herself was to stop the current hair loss and start to regrow some of her hair back.

Prior to her initial consultation with Medi Tresse, she tried biotin supplements, Viviscal, and a low level laser therapy device, however it was not one we would recommend for our patients. She came to Medi Tresse seeking a solution to have healthy, thick hair once more. She was diagnosed with Androgenic Alopecia.

Androgenic Alopecia, which is also known as female pattern hair loss (FPHL), is the most common cause of hair thinning and hair miniaturization. Hair miniaturization occurs when the growth phase of the hair follicle is shortened causing it to produce a smaller and thinner hair. If not treated, the affected hair will continue to get small and can disappear completely.

Medi Tresse Treatments for Androgenic Alopecia

With all of our treatments, we have three main goals: stop further loss, make the hair you have thicker, healthier, and if possible regrow hair. We like to remind all of our patients that attaining any of these goals is a success.

Abby and the Medi Tresse team decided that the best plan for her was to upgrade her laser device to one that provided the optimal energy and coverage, as well as utilize a multi-therapy approach, by adding in Optimal Platelet Concentration (OPC) Therapy and topical Minoxidil. At Abby's 6 month OPC Booster treatment, the team also added PDO Threads to the treatment to provide additional support.

What is OPC Therapy for Androgenic Alopecia?

Exclusively offered by Medi Tresse, this Optimal Platelet Concentration™ Therapy gives the Medi Tresse team the ability to personalize treatment by providing an optimal number of platelets into the scalp to support blood vessels and hair restoration. Like PRP Therapy, this procedure relies on platelet-rich plasma to fight hair loss.

Optimal Platelet Concentration™ Therapy involves a platelet counter, which allows the team to determine the baseline platelet count , run in real time during the treatment. After being spun in a centrifuge, the separated platelets are then counted and confirmed to ensure that they are at the optimal level for the patient’s individual treatment. Lastly, the platelets are optimized and injected into the thinning hair to stimulate regrowth.

Optimal Platelet Concentration™ Therapy is available at the following Medi Tresse locations: Boston, Worcester, Westchester, New York City offices, and available soon at the Chattanooga office.

What is LLLT Therapy for Androgenic Alopecia?

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) provides a safe, comfortable treatment option to restore thinning hair and address visible hair loss. The lights used in LLLT are cold-beam lasers. These forms of light are not capable of burning skin, which makes prolonged use safe for patients.

LLLT has many benefits when it comes to treating hair loss, which is what makes it such a strong treatment option. Not only has LLLT been shown to decrease inflammation and accelerate healing, but studies have shown that it increases blood flow to the follicle by 200%. Most importantly, LLLT has been shown to prolong the growth phase of the follicle, leading to thicker and healthier hair. The LLLT devices offered at Medi Tresse have been cleared by the FDA for treating female hair loss.
