In 2019, due to an increase in demand for surgical treatment options for hair restoration, a new started offering hair transplants through a new subspecialty group called Medi Tresse Surgical.

What is a hair transplant?

A hair transplant is a minor surgical procedure where hair follicles are removed from the back of the scalp and planted into desired areas on top of the scalp. There are two types of hair transplant procedures – Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). With each process, follicles are removed from the back of the scalp and replanted into the recipient area.

Who Makes A Good Candidate For a Hair Transplant?

All hair transplants require patients to have enough hair available in the donor area to use as a grafts. Men with androgenic alopecia (male pattern hair loss) are the best candidates for hair transplants. Male pattern hair loss is an inherited trait and affects the top of the scalp and usually spares the back of the head (donor area). Female pattern hair loss, which is also genetic, typically manifests itself as a diffuse loss over the entire scalp and therefore is usually treated with medical therapy.

Most male candidates for hair transplant surgery are 20+, have excellent density in the donor area, with loss concentrated in the anterior and mid scalp. Female patients with female pattern hair loss, that are looking to fill in a specific area (i.e. temples, part line, etc.) could be a good candidate, as long as their donor area is strong.  Hair transplants may be an option for those experiencing hair loss due to trauma, burns, and overall thinning hair.

When Will I See Results?

Most hair transplant patients see results about 6 – 9 months after the surgery, while in a few cases it may take 15-18 months. Patients will experience regrowth of anywhere between 80% to 90% of the transplanted hair.
