Essential oils have become extremely trendy in 2019. In 1998, a randomized double-blind study was completed on patients with alopecia areata and showed some promise in the use thyme, rosemary, lavender, and cedarwood oils as a treatment, as 44% of the patients showed improvement with this combination. There is still some debate on how effective essential oils can be in regrowing hair and more research needs to be done before stopping any proven treatments.
